First way to use icons in Photoshop

To add an icon to your picture in Photoshop you should find icon you want to use in reference lists. In case of Font Awesome icon set go to http://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/cheatsheet/ .

Choose icon from the page or opened file in your browser, select it, you can just doubleclick icon on Windows (you shoud select only icon itself like you select a word or a letter, no other code needed) and copy it.

Then In your file in Photoshop use Text tool and paste your icon

Now select your icon that doesn’t look like an icon yet

and choose your installed font to make it look the way you want

Now you can make with this icon anything you usually do with your letters: change color, size etc.

Second way to use icons in Photoshop (from CC 2015)

If you use Photoshop CC 2015 you can put icons as many as you want right from Glyphs panel without browser and copy-paste.

  1. Open Type tool
  2. Choose a font you want to use (in this case FontAwesome)
  3. Open Glyphs Panel

You can use the same way any other icon fonts you have downloaded and installed on your system.
